Academic Search for a Physics Professor
In the Fall semester of the 2002-2003
academic year, the department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics launched
a national search to hire a second physicist to enhance the current physics
program and to breathe new life to the Physics program. We expect to have
a new physicist named some time in the middle of the Spring Semester.
Grushow to spend year at National Science Foundation
Dr. Dil Peiris named as Acting Professor
Associate Professor of Chemistry
Alexander Grushow has received a one-year appointment to serve as a Program
Director at the National Science Foundation
in the Division
of Undergraduate Education. In this position Dr. Grushow will be responsible
for reviewing programs and proposals which relate to undergraduate education
and training not just in chemistry, but in the Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics fields in general. During Dr. Grushow's leave at the NSF,
in Arlington, VA, the department has been fortunate to be able to hire
Dr. Dil Peiris as his replacement. Dr. Peris,
whose most recent appointment was at the University of Central Michigan,
will be teaching the general chemistry and physical chemistry courses
usually taught by Grushow. Welcome aboard, Dr. Peiris!
Physics Merges with Chemistry and Biochemistry
In the summer of 2002, the physics
program at Rider University was separated merged with the Department of
Chemistry and Biochemistry to make the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry
and Physics. For many years, the physics program had been in a joint department
with the Mathematics program. In moving Physics in with other physical
science programs it is hoped that the Physics program can be better integrated
with the other laboratory science programs at Rider. |
